IJAW YOUTH COUNCIL SCRIBE BLAST CHEVRON NIG LTD OVER REFUSAL TO GIVE ELECTRICITY TO HOST KOKODIAGBENE COMMUNITY IN GBARAMATU KINGDOM  OVER 40YRS OF OIL EXPLORATION AND EXPLOITATION --Says CHEVRON NIG LTD is insensitive to their host communties

The Ijaw Youth Council Secretary of  Western Zone (Delta,Edo & Ondo States) Comr. Doubra Collins Okotete  in a statement sent to creek news has expressed his dissatisfactions and disappointment over the the refusal and neglect of Kokodiagbene Community in Gbaramatu Kingdom by Chevron Nig Ltd.

Comr. Doubra described the recent shutdown of oil activities of Chevron Nig Ltd by thier host Kokodiagbene Community in Gbaramatu Kingdom as a well thought out action and commend the Hon. Uyadonghan Poweide led community  executives and entire Kokodiagbene community  for embarking on a peaceful protest and shutting down of the Utunana flow stations as a way of expressing the displeasure of the host community over the long neglect and failure of the giant multinational oil company from fulfilling their cooperate - social responsibility, stating that the insensitivity of oil companies over community  developmental issues can result to a break down of law and order especially when  despite several appeals and engagements, Chevron  has refused to listen to the plight  of their host communities. It's so disheartening and painful he attested.

Com. Doubra Okotete who also hails maternally from Kokodiagbene community in Gbaramatu Kingdom describes the over 40 years neglect of his people as disappointing, unthinkable and a parasitic relationship that has existed for over 40 years.

He further states that "our people deserves the basic amenities of life from both the state, federal government and oil multinationals that are making billions of dollars daily from our natural  resources. Life expectancy of our people has drastically dropped from the World Health Organization  cut off point  due to various diseases our people are suffering from as a result of long standing  environmental hazards on our lands, rivers and air".

The secretary of western zone IYC also use this this medium to urge and appeal to the Governor Okowa led Delta State Government  and President Mohammedu Buhari  to ensure that the plight and yearnings of our people are addressed with positive outcome in other to avert the impending doom that will result from a breakdown of law and order.

Kokodiagbene community is a peaceful and  law abiding community and no doubt Chevron Nig Ltd has enjoyed this same  peace over the years and the community has also played their part by creating the  enabling environment for oil business to boom which is evidenced in the increased oil production culminating into the increased revenue the state and Nigerian government has enjoyed over the years.

This should serve as a huge  lesson to Cheveron, SPDC, Agip and other IOC's  operating in our Ijaw communities from Ogulagha Kingdom, Gbaramatu, Egbema down to the Apoi kingdoms of Ondo state whose primary aim is to keep exploring and exploiting our God given wealth but has  refused to provide for our people  the simple basic needs such as potable water, electricity, scholarships,  infrastructure and human capital development. We shall no longer accommodate the parasitic and pseudo relationship these IOC's are practising with our communities.

Comr. Okotete Hint that massive  protests and shutting down of oil activities are underway in Ogulagha Kingdom and in majority of our communities where oil companies have failed to provide the basic amenities of life. Pointing that its high time we take our destiny's in our hands as our people are dying daily due to oil activities without good hospitals and provisions of health care services to our communities.  We are seriously preparing and almost ready to not just confront but also express our displeasures via sending those IOC's  found wanting out of our environment.

FORWARN THE EDO STATE GOVERNMENT AND SECURITY AGENCIES IN EDO STATE  --

~COMR. DOUBRA COLLINS OKETETE - SECRETARY IYC WESTERN ZONE.

Following the incessant harassment and invasion of the law abiding citizens of the peaceful Ijaw GELEGELE community in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State, the umbrella body of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Western Zone ( Delta, Edo & Ondo States)  has passed a sound warning to Oba N' Edo  Ewuare-11,Oba of Benin Kingdom and his kinsmen through it General Secretary Comr. Doubra Collins Oketete over their Nefarious act by invading the law abiding Gelegele community in trying to map out a land to site a palace for the Oba, a community that doesn't belongs to the Benin Kingdom.

The IYC in a statement sent to creek news disclose that,  "Gelegele (Gelegele Gbene) is one of the most ancient historical Ijaw communities of Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo state, Gelegele Community (Gelegele-gbene) is an ancient Olodiama Ijaw speaking Community founded by PA OLUGBO IKPITI  several centuries ago. Gelegele is a boarder community between Ijaw communities and Edo communities on one hand and also it is a boundary community of Olodiama clan and Egbema clan of Delta and Edo states".

The Bini Monarch has often time plan to assimilate Gelegele gbene, hence the incessant invasion and harassment meted on the Gelegele people by the Oba of Benin.
The entire Ijaw Nation is aware of the  Scheming,  manipulations to lay claim to the Gelegele people and community, so as to share the wealth  that accrues to the gelegele- community due to the attention being accorded by the Federal Government and the international community as an oil producing community in Edo state and the proposed establishment of a seaport and a new satellite town in Gelegele Community.

The IYC Western Zone through it's secretary Comr. Doubra said that continuous harassment and infernal act against the law abiding gelegele people is truly a call for war and the Ijaw Youth Council is gradually losing its patience over the continuous harassment meted on the GELEGELE community. Let it be known to the entire world that Ijaw people has  never been conquered in the history of creation and that the Oba of benin and his kinsmen are only trying  the patience of the Ijaw people.

Despite several complains lodged by the GELEGELE community to the Edo State Government and Security Agencies, it's obvious that the security agencies are aiding the odious act repeatedly exercised by the Oba Edo Ewuare 11. We stand not only  to condemn the said act but to also sound a warning to stop forthwith.

Let it be known that the GELEGELE people are not alone. They belong to Ijaw Nation. Therefore, the Ijaw Youth Council  and entire Ijaw Nation  shall resist and defend our people "the GELEGELE community with the last tip of our blood. The Ijaw people are peaceful and law abiding people, but, our simplicity should not be taking for granted.
