NIGERIA MARITIME UNIVERSITY, OKERENKOKO
That the Nigeria Maritime University Okerenkoko, which is the pride of every Niger Deltan today has a legal backing to operate is the handiwork of so many players who painstakingly made efforts to ensure that the visions of the founders come to fruition. Notable amongst the very many persons that played diverse roles to secure the needed legislative backing is the Most Distinguished Senator James Manager, Rt. Hon. Daniel Rinielju and Rt. Hon. Julius G. Pondi.
Honourable Pondi, the member representing Burutu Federal Constituency was greatly instrumental to the passage of the bill establishing the Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko as sponsored by the Hon. Member presenting Warri Federal Constituency, Hon. Daniel Rinielju on the floor of the green Chamber of the National Assembly.
His roles includes but not limited to the following;
• strategizing with the Distinguished Senator James Manager and other Ijaw lawmakers on how to pull the bill through successfully
• garnering the needed support from his colleagues to ensure that the bill is passed on the floor of the house.
• convincing members of the house committee on maritime safety, education and transport, which he is a member to visit the site of the maritime university which led to their recommendations that subsequently led to the passage of the bill in the green chamber.
• securing of employment opportunities for Burutu Federal Constituents
