Edo Guber: APC Governors To Meet Tinubu Over Obaseki

~Move to save embattled gov from ‘gang-up’
may meet President to reconcile Oshiomhole with gov

~No discussion yet with Edo governor over defection, says PDP

Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress are scheduled to meet with the party’s National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Sunday PUNCH has learnt.

The meeting, which is believed to be connected to last-minute efforts to ensure the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, clinches the party’s ticket for the forthcoming governorship election in the state, is scheduled to hold today (Sunday).

It was not clear if the governors’ emissaries would meet with the former Lagos governor at his Bourdillon residence in Ikoyi or it would be a virtual meeting.

            Gov. Godwin Obaseki

A source privy to the development confided in one of our correspondents in Abuja on Saturday that the meeting was at the instance of the governors, noting that a delegation of the governors would meet with Tinubu to seek his intervention preparatory to further talks with the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on the issue.

The source said, “The meeting with Tinubu is essentially to seek his intervention in the crisis rocking the party in Edo State. Part of the conditions being worked on, which the governor is expected to meet, is to swear in the remaining members of the state House Assembly who have yet to be sworn in.”

About a year after the Assembly was inaugurated, only 10 out of the 24 members of the Assembly had so far been sworn in. This is due to the crisis that surrounded the issuance of the proclamation of the Assembly by the governor.

In defence of the action, the governor claimed that those who had yet to assume office refused to be sworn in.

Talking about the peace move, a top-ranking party source said, “The train has since left the station. It is too late in the day to find a common ground on the Obaseki issues.

Conversely, another party source said, “In politics, nothing is cast in stone. Old foes can become friends with the right incentives. After all, there are no permanent friends or enemies.”

One of the APC governors, who also spoke on the issue, told one of our correspondents that he and his colleagues would do whatever they could do to save Obaseki out of what he called the “gang up against one of us.”

He said the governors would not want Obaseki to be treated “as an outsider when those ganging up against him are not accusing him of non-performance.”

He added, “We will see what we can do in our power as progressive governors we would do in the interest of our party and in the interest of the people of Edo State.

Okowa 5Years In Office: How Many Bridges Have You Build In 5Yrs, Ijaw Group Ask Gov. Okowa ~Creek news

An ljaw Social Political pressure group under the auspices of Concerned Citizens For lzon-ebe Development, CCFID has questioned the governor of Delta State, Dr Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa for failing Deltans woefully, especially the ljaws at five years in office without commissioning any bridge to fast track road infrastructural development to riverine communities across the state.

The group in a Press Statement released on Sunday 31st May, 2020 and signed by its President, Comrade. Oyinbi Onduku which a copy was sent to creek news stated that, after critical assessment of governor Okowa's five years in office, we expressed disappointment on Delta State government for not commissioning any tangible project in riverine communities, stressing that the five years of governor Okowa is a total failure as far as Delta ljaws are concerned.

According to Onduku, said:  " lf former governor of Delta State, Chief James Onanefe Ibori can build bridges, roads, schools, Health Care Centres, Stadiums, Electricity etc. across the nooks and crannies of Delta State within four years in office, what stops Okowa, a medical doctor by profession and the self acclaimed 'EKWEME 1' of Africa  from doing the same or even do more than the former his boss. As far as Delta riverine ljaws are concerned, Gov. Okowa has failed us woefully at his five years in office when compared to his predecessors.

Lamenting further, " Onduku noted that Gov. Okowa celebrating five years in office without commissioning Ayakoromo bridge in Burutu is a total failure. Okowa celebrating five years in office without commissioning any primary Healthcare centers, schools, electricity, motorable road networks, stadium etc. in riverine communities is a big disappointment to a medical doctor as governor."

Onduku regretted that despite Gov. Okowa's wealth of experience as a medical doctor, former Council Chairman, SSG, Commissioner for Health and now a serving governor for five years, he has not be able to transform Delta state from where his predecessors stopped.

" Okowa should bury his face in shame for celebrating five years in office as a governor of Anioma and Agbor. Spread your tentacle of real infrastructural development to ljaw riverine communities whose bloc votes pave way for your victory at the polls.

Until Gov. Okowa commission the only Ayakoromo bridge project under his administration that will open up road networks as well as other infrastructural development to riverine communities in Burutu, Ughelli South and Bomadi LGA across Delta, he has done nothing as far as Delta ljaws are concerned, the group stated."

Breaking: INEC Wins, As Court Declares Deregistration Of 74 Political Parties Legal

May 28, 2020

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has declared that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has the power to deregister political parties which failed to comply with the provisions of the law particularly Section 225 A of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

In a landmark judgment delivered by Justice Taiwo O. Taiwo in the Suit filed by the National Unity Party, one of the 74 parties deregistered by the INEC in February, the court affirmed that the constitutional power of the electoral commission and the reasons given by the Commission for the deregistration of parties are valid, in conformity with the law, sacrosanct and could not be affected by the fact of anticipated Local govt elections by some states which dates were not fixed, certain or even ascertainable.

The Court, therefore, held that the deregistration of National Unity Party as a political party in Nigeria was lawfully done in exercise of vested constitutional powers of the INEC in accordance with Section 225A  of the 1999 Constitution. The judgment conclusively terminated the legal existence of the Party and also all its other rights and obligations.

The Court also held that the Party failed to show that the exercise of its powers to deregister the Party was at variance with the law and also ultra vires its powers. Hence the court came to the conclusion that the Plaintiff (the Party) failed to prove its case and the issues for determination cannot be determined in its favour and the reliefs it sought could not be granted to it.

The Court in the landmark Judgment quashed the argument of the NUP Party which is the same legal argument by the 74 deregistered parties that until all Local Govt elections in the country are held instead of only FCT Local elections that the Constitution empowers INEC to conduct, that INEC cannot deregister them. Before now, the deregistration controversy has raged between the electoral commission and the 74 Parties, with INEC holding the position that after fulfilling their constitutional roles of conducting Presidential, Federal and State  Legislative, Governorship and FCT Council elections that the stage was set for deregistration of parties which didn’t win any position as required by the Constitution, a position that the Court has now upheld thereby dimming the hope of any of the 74 parties regaining their legal right to exit.

By this judgment, only 18 political parties will be participating in the  Edo and Ondo State Governorship elections scheduled to hold on September 19, 2020, and October 10, 2020. This is as lawyers who were spoken to by our correspondent are of the unanimous opinion that with the finding of the Court in the judgment, it would be extremely impossible for another high Court to find otherwise since from the deregistration template, basically the same issues were raised by INEC as grounds for the action they took to deregister the political parties. The lawyer says that though a high court is not bound to follow the judgment of a Court of coordinate jurisdiction as it would have followed that of the Court of Appeal or Supreme Court, the judgment would be persuasive and another High Court judge would need to find a marked difference before it can deviate from the earlier judgment.

While reacting to the ruling, the Acting  President of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC and AAC Party Chairman, Dr Leonard Nzenwa said that until upturned on appeal, the judgment of the Court in the position of the law and only the 18 political parties recognized by INEC will participate in the Edo and Ondo Governorship elections and that the Parties are ready for the elections.

Obaseki To Oshiomhole: APC Will Pick Governorship Candidate In Edo, Not Abuja

Information Nigeria

                   Governor Godwin Obaseki

Governor Godwin Obaseki has released an official statement disregarding reports that the All Progressive Congress (APC) has adopted a consensus candidate of pastor Ize Iyamu as the next gubernatorial poll in the state approaches.

According to a statement by his spokesman, Crusoe Osagie, he said the state chapter of the party would pick the candidate for the election and not the Abuja chapter of the party.

“The Edo State chapter of the APC, which is responsible for deploying the inner workings of the party towards the emergence of a candidate of the APC in the forthcoming gubernatorial election, resides and operates in Edo State, not Abuja,” a statement issued on Wednesday by the Government House, Benin City, state

“It is, therefore, hilarious to hear that a so-called consensus candidate for the party in Edo State governorship election was selected in Abuja.

“For us, this is a joke taken too far and clearly shows that Comrade Adams Oshiomhole once again has set the APC on a journey to perdition in Edo State as he did in Zamfara, Bayelsa, Rivers, Taraba and several other states.”

The governor added, “The last time we checked, the timetable released by Oshiomhole’s National Working Committee (NWC) fixed Edo Primary election for 22nd of June, 2020 and it is expected to hold in Edo State.

“But we now hear that they have conducted the primary election three weeks before the set date in a jurisdiction far away from Edo State, making a mockery of our great party, the APC, President Muhammadu Buhari, the presidency and all other institutions and esteemed individuals associated with our party.

“Our conclusion on this matter is that like all other illegal actions taken by Oshiomhole, this too is a nullity and shall come to no-effect.

Breaking: Adesina Bows, 'Step Down' As African Development Bank Boss.

May 27, 2020

Nigeria’s Akinwumi Adesina will step back as African Development Bank boss after the regional bank agrees to probe him again following pressures from US president Donald Trump, Elombah news is reporting.

The African Development Bank’s board has agreed to open a fresh independent investigation of its President Akinwumi Adesina after the U.S. rejected an internal investigation that cleared him of allegations of favoritism, according to a Bloomberg report.

Africa’s largest multilateral lender decided on the inquiry after several governments backed U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin’s criticism of a bank-led examination into the allegations, the report stated.

Adesina, who has repeatedly denied wrongdoing, may have to step back from the role until the probe is completed, ElombahNews has learnt.

Unidentified whistleblowers accused Adesina, 60, of handing contracts to acquaintances and appointing relatives to strategic positions.

The Abidjan-based lender declined to comment. Adesina didn’t respond to an emailed request seeking comment, while a call to his mobile phone didn’t connect.

The proposed investigation comes three months before the bank’s annual meeting, at which Adesina is the sole candidate to extend his five-year term.

The AAA-rated lender’s 80 shareholders in October pledged to provide funding that will help to more than double its capital base to $208 billion.

Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland are among countries that wrote to the AfDB to back the Mnuchin’s demands for professional outsiders to look into the allegations, according to Bloomberg. A representative for the Nordics declined to comment.

Mnuchin last week wrote to the AfDB to express “deep reservations” about the integrity of the lender’s ethics committee, after it exonerated Adesina.

The scope and detail of the allegations are serious enough for a further inquiry to ensure the AfDB’s shareholders have confidence in the bank’s leadership, Mnuchin said in the May 22 letter addressed to Niale Kaba, the chairwoman of the bank’s board of governors.

The U.S. is the AfDB’s biggest shareholder after Adesina’s home country of Nigeria.

The demands for an independent probe are aimed at ensuring that if the allegations are baseless, the process of reaching that conclusion is public and transparent, sources told Bloomberg.

Shareholders of the AfDB include 54 nations on the continent and 27 countries in the Americas, Europe, Middle East and Asia. It has an AAA rating from Fitch Ratings, Moody’s Investors Service and S&P Global Ratings.

“If there are questions from major shareholders on the appropriateness of an internal process, clearly it’s not harmful if that is put into a different light and looked at from the outside world with fresh eyes,” S&P analyst Alexander Ekbom said before the decision of the probe was taken.

“We don’t necessarily require such or we don’t advocate for such.”

Prior to Mnuchin’s letter to the board, African leaders including South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and his Nigerian counterpart, Muhammadu Buhari, expressed support for Adesina and commended him for his efforts to help secure funds for Africa to deal with the fallout from the disease.

U.S. criticism of the bank’s internal processes follows comments by World Bank President David Malpass in February that multilateral lenders including the AfDB tend to provide loans too quickly, and, in the process, add to African nations’ debt problems.

The bank rebutted the statement, saying it undermines its governance systems, impugns its integrity and that there is no risk of “systemic debt distress” on the continent.

In March, the lender issued a $3 billion social bond to help African countries deal with the fallout from the coronavirus pandemic.

The bank also launched a $10 billion crisis-response facility for African nations.

Political Interference Has Disrupted The Original Purpose Of Setting Up NDDC ~ Ojougboh

                   Dr. Caro Ojuogboh

The Executive Director Projects NDDC Dr Cairo Ojougboh has said that President Muhammadu Buhari saved the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, from being shut down due to over trading, bloated contracts and other sharp practices in the Commission.

Speaking to journalists, the Acting Executive Director, Projects, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh said Political Interference has disrupted the Original Purpose of creating the (NDDC) adding that the IMC's Mission is to change the Narrative for Good.

Dr Ojougboh emphasized that it is in the Best Interest of President Muhamadu Buhari to Develop the Niger Delta Region and eradicate corruption, revealing that the NDDC was sinking and would have been “killed and buried” but for the intervention of Mr. President.

President Buhari had ordered a Forensic Audit of the Commission and appointed an Interim Management Committee (IMC), headed by Acting Managing Director, Gbene Dr. Joi Nunieh, Barr Ibanga Etang, Acting Executive Director, Finance and Administration, and our capacity Leader Dr. Cairo Ojuogboh, Acting Executive Director, Projects.

Dr. Ojougboh, who is also the Chairman of Contracts Verification Committee observed that the NDDC was set up not only to offer a lasting solution to the Socio-Economic and Environmental Problems of the Niger Delta region by conceiving and implementing plans aimed at Developing the Infrastructure, Human Capacity Building, but also complement the efforts of the various state Governments and other Developmental Agencies in the region.

Ojougboh said: “Whilst successive leadership of the NDDC may have done their best, today, the general conclusion of most stakeholders in the region is that the NDDC has not delivered on its mandate. At best, it has been a lack-lustre performance, with very little to show for the humongous resources that have accrued to it over the past 19 years. Stories of pervasive corruption, flagrant abuse of due process, abandoned projects, poor quality project delivery, etc. at the NDDC, have adorned our media space over the years.

“In an effort to stem this unfortunate tide, Governors of the nine states of the region, a couple of months ago, visited President Muhammadu Buhari to not only lay bare their perception of the Commission since its inception, but to also as members of the Advisory Council of the NDDC, offer useful advice on the way forward to the President. The result of this historic visit is the ordering of a forensic audit of the activities of the NDDC from inception to date by the President.”

Consequently, he said, the President on October 29, 2019 appointed the IMC to oversee the forensic audit of the NDDC, adding: “The Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs in conjunction with the NDDC Interim Management Committee, in preparation for the commencement of the forensic audit, secured a Certificate-of-No-Objection from the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) for the lead consultant for the forensic audit, while that of the sub-consultants was being processed.”
Ojougboh affirmed: “The contract verification committee is, therefore, to lay a foundation for the forensic audit of the activities of the Commission from inception to date. To this end, all contractors, consultants (design and supervision), vendors, suppliers and NGOs or their certified representatives, who have business transactions with the Commission, are thus requested to report with three photocopies each of their letters of award, Contract Agreement, and Interim Payment Certificate (where applicable), and also to present originals for assessment, evaluation and verification to the NDDC office where such business is located.

“They are also to present letters detailing a brief statement or summary of their claims/requests on their headed papers with verifiable addresses and certified true copies of their company registration documents.
The Chairman of the Verification Committee said that the exercise would among other things establish the true position of the emergency contract regime between 2016 and 2019 in the NDDC, observing that it was common knowledge that some of the awards were not only spurious but criminal, as available records showed that most of the awards were not backed by budget, bills of engineering measurement and drawings. “They were just open cheques for contractors and their collaborators to fill in at the nearest banks,” he said.

Ojougboh said: “In 2017, the NDDC awarded a total of 201 emergency contracts valued at N100,396,879,001.06; in 2018, a total 1,057 emergency contracts valued at N162,688,289,333.05 were awarded; and in just seven months of 2019, it awarded a total 1,921 emergency contracts valued at N1,070,249,631,757.70.
“We are talking about a total of over N1.3trillion in less than three years. The yearly budget of the NDDC is hardly above 400 billion and a situation where contracts that do not qualify for emergencies were fraudulently awarded to over one trillion naira valued in less than one year amounts to not only stealing from the pulpit but stealing the entire pulpit.”

Ojougboh assured that the verification exercise would expose those spurious contracts and advised contractors with fake or specious awards to stay away from the various documentation centres in their own interest.

He charged members of the Contract Verification Committee to discharge their duties diligently, honestly and professionally, urging them to note that the entire people of the Niger Delta and the Commission had placed heavy responsibilities on their shoulders.

House Of Reps Insist On NDDC Probe Of Alleged Misuse Of Over N40 billion

26 May 2020

……Deny the allegation of receiving N3 trillion contract from NDDC

The House of Representatives has reiterated its resolve to probe into the allegation of mismanagement of over N40 billion by the interim management committee (IMC) of the Niger Delta development commission (NDDC).

The chairman of the House Committee on NDDC, Mr Olubunmi Ojo made this known to reporters at the National Assembly complex in Abuja.

The lawmaker denied the allegation from a member of the NDDC IMC that his committee , alongside that of the Senate benefited from a contract to the tune of about N3 trillion from the NDDC.

Ojo who claimed that he, alongside members of his committee had received threat to their lives by militants maintained that no amount of blackmail will deter his committee from probing into the allegation of wrongdoings in the NDDC.

According to him: “It’s unfortunate that these allegations are coming. These allegations are forms of blackmail and it is surprising. I became Chairman of this Committee in September last year when we were inaugurated and between September and now, I can say that not a kobo of contract has been awarded as an emergency and so I don’t know how that assertion came about.

“It is laughable because the IMC themselves came into place in September last year, a month after I became Chairman of the House Committee. I came into office and the IMC came into office in October and Dr. Cairo Ojuogbo himself said they have not awarded a single contract since they came on board.

“So, how did the issue of the contract come about? Obviously, this is share blackmail and we expected this from the onset when the investigation process started. The bottom line is that we are not going to be deterred.

” I can say it categorically that we are more determined to work for the people of the Niger Delta. I can say there is no one trillion, two trillion anywhere because it does not exist. Maybe it only exist in the figment of their own imagination.”

Continuing, he argued: “In the first place, the National Assembly does not award contracts. So, I am surprised that anybody will award a job that is not in the budget. I have gone through the 2019 budget as approved and I can tell you that there is no provision for emergency training and so, I don’t know what he is talking about.

” I have said it before and let me repeat it for emphasis sake that I don’t have a single contract in NDDC. It started with a 17 kilometre road which they could not substantiate and now, they have come up with another thing. We are only expecting more. I have never had any contract with NDDC, I am not a contractor with NDDC, I have never worked for NDDC and I have never been paid by NDDC for anything.

” I am the chairman of this committee by the grace of God and I know the responsibilities on my shoulders. I know that the Niger Delta is looking up to us for succour, for intervention, for help and for a greater tomorrow. We will not mortgage of the Niger Delta people for sake of our today. That will not happen. I don’t have a contract, and I repeat, I dont have a contract. It is an indictment on their part if they claim that there was an award for none budgeted item. That is a very serious offence which the National Assembly must look into.”

NDDC: NGO Uncovers N25bn Allegedly Spent On Imaginary Contingency Road Repairs

24 May, 2020

ABUJA- The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has spent N25 billion on regional contingency road repairs as opposed to the N800 million which was appropriated for by the National Assembly in its 2019 budget.

Mr Johnson Kolawale, Head, Directorate of Research and Programmes, Act for Positive Transformation Initiative, a non governmental organization, (NGO), said this in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja.

Mr. Kolawole said that the figures were part of revelations of extra budgetary spendings by the new NDDC management, which he made open on a live television programme on Thursday.

Recall that the NDDC has been in the news for an alleged N40 billion irregular expenditure by the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the commission.

Kolawale said: “Sequel to the flurry of petitions to the National Assembly, both arms of the institution had resolved to investigate the alleged N40 billion irregular expenditures”.

According to him, “there is a lot of extra budgetary spending in the commission in the last few months which is directly in breach of the law”.

“However, in a clandestine move to cover up for the alleged fraud, the IMC, is a secret letter to the National Assembly, is asking for virement running into billions of naira”, he said.

Kolawale noted that “in the letter, the IMC claimed to have spent N250 million on economic summit when only N30 million was provided for in the budget and the question is, where was this summit held”?

“The IMC claimed to have spent another N200 million on another sustainable development forum when only N45 million was budgeted for it.

“The IMC claimed to have spent another N75 million on annual peace summit without telling the public where it held”, the statement added.

According to the Ondo-borne anti corruption activist, “another N300 million on proposal for regional security summit (phase 1) had been spent and the IMC claimed to have spent N13 billion on headquarters project this year alone”.

“The IMC claimed to have spent N500 million on office administration and Human Resource when only N150 million was provided”, he said, adding that there was need to know those they employed.

“The IMC claimed to have spent N5.5 billion on awareness campaign on communicable disease and N7 billion on training of Niger Delta youth in welding, electrical fittings in few months.

“This is aside from another N3.4 billion spent on invisible entrepreneural development program.

“In a few days time, I will be telling Nigerians the unimaginable amount they claimed to have spent on security and health and we will audit them openly,” he said.

Pandemonium As Buhari Order Probe Of Abba Kyari's Office, Others

25 May 2020

Presidency aides silent amid intrigues
A wave of apprehension is sweeping through Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) as President Muhammadu Buhari begins a probe into the office of the late Chief of Staff Abba Kyari. The investigation may lead to all appointments and approvals made by Kyari without Buhari’s permission being cancelled. This is as pundits said the volte face by the president in directing a reversal of over 100 decisions by Kyari could create more problems than it is trying to solve.

Also, a source within the Presidential Villa suggested that the power block that produced the new Chief of Staff Ibrahim Gambari might be the force fighting back.
Sleep might have already begun eluding many officials in the MDA’s on account of contracts okayed without Buhari’s approval. If this is what the president is targeting with a view to shoring up his sagging profile, analysts say trouble looms for those who cut illegal deals with the late CoS.

Though no reason was given for the president’s action, reports suggested no less than 150 memos that didn’t have his authorisation may have been uncovered.
Special Adviser on Media and Publicity Femi Adesina declined to confirm or refute the report. “I’ve seen your text. I’ve seen your text,” he simply said and ended the call. Also, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity Garba Shehu did not reply to a text message seeking a confirmation on the development.

Sources told The Guardian yesterday that the directive might just be a continuation of the bickering that produced a deep crack within the ranks of the president’s men last February.

The first sign that all was not okay within Buhari’s inner cabinet emerged in December 2019 when National Security Adviser Babagana Monguno wrote a memo to the president alleging interference by Abba Kyari. He accused the late Kyari of usurping presidential powers and directed service chiefs to ignore instructions by the latter.

Monguno’s account of a connection between Kyari’s alleged ‘meddlesomeness’ and an acute spectre of insecurity that had gripped the country was contained in a series of confidential circulars he addressed to top administration officials on national security.

The NSA also accused the chief of staff of sidestepping the president’s directive, to impose his own decision for implementation; a claim some analysts said was all but a direct accusation of treason against Kyari.

The revelations, first published by an online portal, appeared to undercut an integral aspect of the president’s response to critics: that there is unity among security chiefs towards the common interest of defeating terrorists and armed bandits, rather than an admission of clumsiness or crack in his team.

In media interviews after the memo leaked, Chief of Army Staff Tukur Buratai said insecurity was being confronted across board in the Buhari administration. But Monguno’s memo showed he and other service chiefs had been taking controversial orders from Kyari, despite warnings from the NSA that such a practice was not only unconventional but also in violation of the constitution.

The first signs of war between the NSA and the CoS, two of Buhari’s most powerful aides, was the open letter which revealed both men locked in a bitter confrontation amid raging insecurity.

Perhaps the most potent of allegations raised against the chief of staff by the NSA at the time was that he had been flagrantly discarding decisions already taken by the president and imposing his own recommendation(s).Observers saw this as a jarring allegation bordering on treasonable felony.

Since Buhari settled down in office in 2015, Kyari’s role as the chief of staff made him, perhaps, the most-courted associate of the president, arguably more than the president’s wife and other family members.

The chief of staff’s influence exposed him to some of the worst scandals of the administration. Shortly after telecoms giant, MTN, was slammed with a record fine in 2015, Kyari was the one who allegedly played the middleman in negotiating the fines, a role that threw up allegations of fraud when the scandal broke.

An MTN official who allegedly played a key role in the negotiation was said to have lost her job amid the controversy. But Kyari held on to his position, going forward to take part in bigger deals on government’s behalf. Kyari’s influence was also a matter of serious concern for Aisha Buhari, the president’s wife, who had repeatedly lashed out at the chief of staff for allegedly ‘caging’ her husband and making her redundant in the government.

Last November, another online newspaper reportedly obtained documents showing Kyari overriding Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on a crucial decision on RUGA projects, a series of economic palliatives designed to curtail the herdsmen crisis. It was unclear when President Buhari began his friendship with Kyari, but there is little question that it remained deep and robust since 2015.

When the president was re-elected in 2019, he issued a directive to all his appointees to clear files and memos through Kyari on any matter that required presidential attention. The president did not even single out his vice president as an exception to that restriction.

Monguno’s argument in his memo was that the chief of staff did not swear to a constitutional oath and should, therefore, not be seen issuing directives that carry serious implications for the nation. When it comes to national security, Kyari’s job “stops at conveying Mr. President’s written directives,” the NSA argued.

Kyari, according to those conversant with the inner workings of Aso Villa, had his hand in every pie, because he was “leveraging his sound education, brilliant intellect and experience in bureaucracy and business.”

One of the areas, which was used to criticise Kyari’s competence, was his stint at the failed Africa International Bank (AIB), which he presided over. His political opponents tried to define the late CoS as the architect of the negative public perception of the Buhari administration. They also contended that although every government throughout history is wont to harbour a kitchen cabinet, caucus or cabal, “the remarkable distinction is whether the kitchen cabinet is public-spirited or self-centered.”

The NEC will now meet next week with the ESC. Speaking earlier while briefing the council, the Hounorable Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, said: “to prevent a deep recession arising from the COVID-19 economic crisis, the orthodox approach all over the world, which is also in the works in Nigeria, is to deploy a stimulus package”.

She blamed the Covid-19 pandemic for the collapse of oil prices which impacted negatively on Federation revenues and Foreign exchange earnings. While informing the council on the measures put in place, the finance minister noted that the President established the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, the Crisis Management Committee and the Economic Sustainability Committee which was part of the established structures to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria.

Division And Continuous Division In IYC, A Mockery To Boro's Sacrifice ~ Creeks News

Boro no doubt is the hero of all heroes in the Niger Delta liberation and freedom struggle.

Boro's active quest against injustice, exploration and exploitation triggered the birth of the Niger Delta Republic. Formed the Niger Delta Volunteers Force mainly of the Ijaw ethnic nationalities, declared the Niger Delta Republic with a flag and an emergency constitution on February 23rd, 1966.

For 12 days, Boro fearless, valorously and gallantly combat the Federal Government of Nigeria under the military watch and command of Major. Gen. Aguiyi Ironsi (The then Military Head Of State).

                  Major Jasper Isaac Adaka Boro

Boro and his men fought but were overpowered by the Nigeria military, arrested,  tried for treason and sentenced to death. In the bid to kill Boro, the Nigeria Civil War, which is the brain child of General Odumegu Ojukwu, to secede with the Biafra Republic (mainly of Igbos) broke out on 6th July, 1967.

It is imperative to note that before Ojukwu, there was Boro.
Before Biafra Republic, there was Niger Delta Republic.

Today, Rivers state, Bayelsa state, 13 percent derivation, NDDC, Niger Delta Ministry, Amnesty Programme are all products of genuine struggle led and traceable to Isaac Boro.

On 11 December, 1998, Ijaw youths gathered together at Kaiama, Boro's hometown to advanced the cause of Boro in what is now known as the Famous Kaiama Declaration. This declaration gave birth to the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC.

                   Ijaw Youth Council, IYC

Hence, IYC was founded, built and established to advance Boro's cause and his sacrifice for freedom to see a liberated Niger Delta.

Sad to state that the once united and formidable IYC, is now a hot bed of division, factionalisation, rancour, bitterness, strife, disunity and selfishness.

IYC is now used to promote self interest and for personal gains. It has deviated from its root and founding principles of freedom struggle to self enrichment and aggrandizement.

The IYC struggle has now being bastardized and criminalize to cartels and cabals. Hence, making mockery of Isaac Boro's Sacrifice for freedom and liberation..

The current crop of IYC, unlike their founding fathers has flagrantly, callously and blatantly deviate from the root cause, aims and objectives of Boro's struggle cum what the IYC actually stands for.

It is not enough to celebrate Boro's day every 16th of May sycophantly and pretentiously without being ardent followers of his laid down principles.

Ijaw youths and Ijaw nation should as a matter of urgency call for unity, enchew bitterness, selfishness, factionalisation and pursue oneness, freedom and self determination.
Isaac Boro's foot path must be followed to the latter.

Boro sacrifice himself for many more Boro's to exist. We must therefore follow and pursue his cause.

NIGER DELTA REPUBLIC IS A REALITY.

The next IYC election should be done in a free, fair and credible way.
We must say no to favouritism, nepotism, greed, selfishness and politics of Godfatherism.

Let the candidates emerge through the will of the people. So that Boro's blood and sacrifice will not be continually ridicule and satirically mocked.

52 years after, the memory of Isaac Boro remain fresh for us to pursue his cause to realization. And we must not fail in this struggle. Else posterity will judge and not forgive us.

Boro: The Man, The Hero, The Legend.

~~Boro is synonymous with Freedom

                              Isaac Boro

A lot has being said and written about Major Jasper Isaac Adaka Boro, the man who sacrifice himself for Niger Delta Liberation and freedom.

However, notwithstanding, a lot still needs to be written about this great hero and legend of freedom struggle. Just like Jesus, Boro wholeheartedly and sacrificially laid down his live for the freedom, liberation and betterment of the Niger Delta Region.

It is note of worth to postulate here that Boro was the first to demand for the Niger Delta Republic on 23rd February 1966, before the Major Odumegu Ojukwu secessionist Biafra Republic which led to a civil war on 6th July, 1967. The Nigeria civil war lasted for 30 months (July 1967 -- January 1970).

Ojukwu declared the Eastern region as a Sovereign State of Biafra on May 30th, 1967. Before then Isaac Boro has declared the Niger Delta Republic on February 23rd, 1966 during the Gen. Aguiyi Ironsi's regime (which was the first military regime in Nigeria, after the first coup), with his twelve day revolution.

Ironically, hitherto, Every other region accord their heroes with super respect and prestige. Immortalizing them with one great thing or the other. Ijaws and the Niger Delta, are yet to give Isaac Boro the full pious and prestige of a martyr, who suffer martyrdom for the sake of his people.

All sectionally acclaimed leaders has being immortalized by their people. Some has a university to their name, such as Obafemi Awolowo University, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Odumegu Ojukwu University etc, Boro only has a College Of Education to his name. Which is the Isaac Boro College of Education, Kaiama.

Some legends even as their hometown's has the  host of the state capital.
Some states even declared public holidays every year to honour their legends.

    Ijaw and Niger Deltans have not done enough to immortalise Boro as the symbol of freedom, liberation and martyrdom. Hence, I postulate that the following should be done to immortalized Boro;

1. Kaiama the hometown of Isaac Boro, be declared the headquarters of Ijaw nation and Niger Delta at large.

2. The Bayelsa Medical University should be renamed as Isaac Boro Medical University. The Niger Delta University and The University of Africa are okay.

3. Every 16th of May should be declared a public holidays in all Niger Delta States to celebrate him. This will make even little children know the value and meaning of that day till they grow up.

4. IYC, INC should make it as a point of duty to fearlessly demand and fight for Boro's dreams to be achieved.

NIGER DELTA REPUBLIC IS A REALITY...

Boro is the man, the hero and legend of freedom and liberation struggle in the Niger Delta.
*the name Boro is synonymous with Freedom*

Happy Boro Day!!!

Delta Assembly Raises Concern Over Dying Fishes In The Rivers, Calls On Federal, State Govt To Intervene.

*Send Relief Materials To Affected Communities —– Hon  Emomotimi Guwor

The Delta State House of Assembly has passed a resolution calling on Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to urge President Mohammed Buhari to as a matter of urgency direct the Federal Ministry of Environment and its parastatal, NESREA to carry out tripartite joint investigation on the cause of the rising cases of dying fishes along the shore lines of River Forcados and Escravos River in the state.

The resolution which came under matters of urgent public importance, sponsored by the Member Representing Warri South West Constituency in the House, Hon Emomotimi Guwor, drew attention of the authorities to the impending outbreak of another deadly pandemic if necessary actions were not taken.

Hon Guwor in the motion said the River Forcados and Escravos River and their tributaries, are under the siege of a yet to be identified disease that is presently killing fishes along the shore lines of the rivers.

Hon Guwor named areas worst hit by the ugly development to include Ekemetagbene in Bomadi local government area, Akparemogbene, Oyangbene and all communities in Ogulagha and Iduwini kingdom in Burutu local government area as well as the entire Gbaramatu kingdom, all Ugborodo and Orere communities in Warri South West and Ogheye and other communities in Warri North local government area.

The motion also  implored  the President to direct the federal authorities to protect the biodiversity, conservation and sustainable development of the natural resources and the eco system of the affected communities from total extinction.

It also urged the Governor to direct the Commissioners in charge of the state ministries of Environment and Oil and Gas to carry out public enlightenment and sensitization campaigns on the health hazards and harmful implications of the consumption of the dead fishes in order to avoid outbreak of epidemic in the state.

The motion also appealed to  the state government to send relief materials to the affected communities with a view to alleviating the sufferings of the people whose socio-economic well being and livelihood have been disrupted as a result of the impact of the environmental crisis.

Hon Guwor who is the Chairman, House Committee on DESOPADEC, stressed the need for concerted efforts to  ensure that citizens of the affected communities live in a cleaner and healthier environment devoid of pollution.

He said fishing business is the main occupation of the riverine dwellers, disclosing that all accusing fingers on the cause of the unknown disease that are killing the fishes were being pointed to one direction which is the oil companies that surrounds  the localities.

The Lawmaker drew attention to the looming outbreak of pandemic that could be even worst than Covid 19, emphasizing that the negative effects have already started manifesting on the people.

“The Delta State Governor should  direct  the state Ministries of Environment as well as   Oil and  Gas to carry out public enlightenment sensitization campaign on the health hazards and harmful implications of the consumption of dead fishes either smoked or dried; in order to avoid an outbreak of epidemic in the affected communities. Relief materials should  be sent to the affected communities in a view to alleviating the sufferings of the fisherfolk. This is a solemn duty we owe our people, to give them better life by protecting them and their livelihood”, he said.

In their contributions, the  Majority Leader of the  House, Honourable Tim   Owhefere, Deputy Majority Leader, Oboro Preyor, Chief Whip, Pat Ajudua as well as Honorables Austin Uroye and Charles Emetulu, pointed out that any damage to the ecosystem was worrisome.

The Lawmakers stated that the entire society has been exposed to danger, stressing that both federal, states and local government authorities must collaborate to seek solution to the problem.

They emphasized that a tripartite Committee should be set up as a matter of urgency to find out the cause of the dying fishes in the rivers, stressing that the fishes can not be dying from artificial causes.

The motion was unanimously adopted when put to voice vote by the Speaker, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori who presided over  the plenary.

The Speaker commended the robust debate on the merits of the motion and expressed optimism for quick action towards addressing the abnormality threatening the ecology and ecosystem in the riverine communities.

MAY 15th, MEMORIES THAT CANNOT BE ERASED FROM THE HEART OF GBARAMATU KINGDOM.

By: Oturubo Tamaramiyenmene Collins .

All fishing camps, Communities, son's are daughters were all prepared for the festivities that came with the annual Amaseikumor festival, ready to clean up the evil in our lands unknowing to us, the real evil was just a step away ready to wipe us out from the surface of the earth .

I saw it happen before my very own eyes, it was like one of those unbelievable rumours that actually manifested in real life, we were a peaceful people at war with the federal government, our crime? We can't be silent over the underdevelopment ravaging our communities, we won't condone the " monkey dey work , and bamboo dey chop " imposement.

Our enemies were so optimistic in sending the entirety of Gbaramatu kingdom into a State of hibernation, but they forget that "AMA TEI KPO KIRI TEIGHA" .

In our warrior like spirit, the youths took up challenge to protect our most treasured habitat, not minding how sophisticated the Nigeria millitary warfare was, the old ones were praying for the safe return of their children, our King , Late Pere of Gbaramatu kingdom, HRM, DSP GODWIN KOGIDI BEBENIMIBO (rtd), OGEH  GBARAUN II, couldn't move an inch away from the GBARAUN EGBESU TEMPLE , fervently praying for safety of our sons in the battlefield .

Our old women chanting " WONI IDUO WOMO KORI EMI OO, WONI WONI BO WARE SUO OOO" as they match in harmony accross the Communities in solidarity, praying for the fortification of the son's in the heat of the engage of bullets.

Our priests ( OSAIN KARE ABU) diligently seeking answers from the gods of our forebearers for this is beyond human comprehension.

MAY 15TH, you snatched away alot of treasured souls in Gbaramatu, one I can never forget is the death of  MR. ATU KENIYE, who was a victim of the first air attack in the OPOROZA-WEI WARE, I saw the man who was full of life gasping for breath, he was such a jovial man, one of the best master of ceremonies (MC) I have ever seen, may his gentle soul continually rest in peace (ISE).

Like the conquerors enjoying the booties of war, we still suffer the psychological trauma of what was never expected, the physical injuries will never heal, not to mention the psychological injuries.

Okerenkoko Community ( the heartbeat of the Niger Delta struggle)  was razed down, Okerenkoko became a shadow of itself, the millitary carted away with all our valuables,  destroying all the beautiful edifices that took us sweat and blood to build.

But were we actually defeated ? NO IS THE BIG ANSWER .

As our enemies were put to shame.

Today we celebrate our heroes full of live in the after Life, Okerenkoko Community today boast of structures that cannot be found even in most modern Urban cities of the world

Today those who attempted to sweep over name beneath the carpet actually took the name to the highest mountain with global recognition .

Today we celebrate for we are a tribe that cannot be erased out of the surface of the earth, we can never go into extinction, we will live forever .

Today we celebrate because we are the actual VICTORS .

HAPPY GBARAMATU KINGDOM SURVIVAL DAY
